Dog-friendly?

To say we are not dog friendly is a misconception

We love dogs, we have one.

We took the decision not to welcome other people’s pets because we realise there are many guests who are seeking a peaceful respite, avoiding dogs, noise or concerns around allergies and phobias.

Because Acorn Glade is a site of ecological interest, dogs, being dogs, may disturb passing wildlife.

The animals that choose to make this little haven their home is our priority and part of our dog- free policy. This enables guests to enjoy the natural ambience immersed in nature and observing creatures in their natural habitat undisturbed.

As all dog owners know, dogs who are brought to somewhere new can be stressful for them and they need time, reassurance and may cause potential incidents with aggressive or unpredictable behaviour. In turn, the safety and comfort of our guests may be compromised.

As hosts, we don’t have the capacity, nor wish to get into conflicts around cleaning, removing pet hair (which is tricky enough at home) and odours from carpets and furniture. The idea of a dog biting another or worse still, a guest is a huge concern.

We are able to keep our costs down by not having to replace damaged carpets and furniture caused by visiting pets. Our prices reflect this and we want to make it as budget friendly as possible for you, our guest.

Of course, we understand we may come across as having a negative approach. After all dogs are supposed to be “man’s best friend”?

We are all about our guests enjoying Acorn Glade Glamping for what it is. When we decided to let the alpacas roam free around the site during the day, much to the guests delight, we knew that dogs would pose a problem.

Alpacas are terrified of dogs and will either run away or work together and herd a dog, or fox into a corner and trample them and possibly hurt them. Dogs are fascinated by alpacas and may give chase.

We provide a tranquil space where guests can peacefully sit and enjoy the resident wildlife, fish, birds and observe the alpacas wandering free.

We do find that those guests visiting without their pets for the weekend offers a chance to spend some quality time together with long lie-ins or visiting York, indulging in each other’s company and creating lasting memories.

There are some other fantastic glamp-sites that welcome dogs and provide a different adventure here in beautiful Yorkshire.

At Acorn Glade York we provide a great night’s sleep, waking to fresh air, peaceful views over the lake and digital detoxing as a given.

So many guests comment on why they chose this glamping experience over others and being pet-free is ranking as one of the top reasons.

We hope that dog-free glamping is something you will consider in the future. It beats a similarly priced square room in a predictably standard hotel any day. Forget Airbnb rentals where it is impersonal and heavily loaded with commission and cleaning fees. Enjoy proper hospitality at our happy, healing hideaway that is hound-less.

We look forward to welcoming you soon
